About

The author of this blog is Awais Athar. He was born in Lahore, Pakistan and as long as he can remember, he wanted to be a “scientist” when he grew up. Lucky for him, when he was in the 8th grade, he got an Atari XL 800, fell in love with the 64K monster, started programming in MS-BASIC and played  River Raid! non-stop. One thing led to another and he ended with a BS degree in Computer Science from FAST-NU, Lahore. Like a ‘good kid’, he spent about six years in the software industry, got bored and went back to academia. Since then, he has taught at FAST-NU for two years while taking a year off in between to get an MPhil. Currently, while not writing about himself in third-person, he is a Research Student at Cambridge and tries to work on some fun stuff in text and speech processing alongside.

On this blog, he hopes to present his personal observations and rants on information retrieval, natural language processing, machine learning and text processing along with some computational linguistics, speech processing, philosophy, music and literature thrown in among other things.
