The author of this blog is Awais Athar. He was born in Lahore, Pakistan and as long as he can remember, he wanted to be a “scientist” when he grew up. Lucky for him, when he was in the 8th grade, he got an Atari XL 800, fell in love with the 64K monster, started programming in MS-BASIC and playing River Raid! non-stop. One thing led to another and he ended up in Computer Science, getting his BS from FAST-NU and MPhil + PhD from Cambridge. Since then, he has worked in the industry and taught at his alma, while trying to work on some fun stuff in text and speech processing alongside.

While not writing about himself in third-person, he jots down his personal observations and rants on information retrieval, natural language processing, machine learning and text processing along with some computational linguistics, speech processing, philosophy, music and literature thrown in with the pictures he takes, among other things.
